FORTRANS

Hi,

Well, I am unlikely to want/need another antenna in the near
future in any event.  But good to know if someone else needs
to put one together.  A definite improvement, even the third
station I wanted has shown up at times.  The second station
has faded, but for seconds rather than half the time.  So it
was apparently worth the effort, even though the house
smells of rosin from the failed attempts to solder the shield
wire.

Cheers,

Steve N.

well - indoor antennas only go so far

some general rules of thumb....
1) get the antenna outdoors
2) get the antenna as high as practical
3) use a directional antenna that has gain - and aim it at the station

it isn't always practical to follow the rules, but it's good to know what works
for FM broadcast, a TV antenna on the roof can work quite well, provided it is aimed at the station(s) you want to hear
for most locations, the stations are in different directions, so the rule about a directional gain antenna isn't always optimal
in some locations, it may be best to orient the antenna vertically

we are rather lucky, here in the Phoenix area
nearly all the stations in the area have their transmitters located at the top of South Mountain
that means that a single gain antenna, pointed at South Mountain will get everything

at any rate, glad to hear that your effort paid off   :U
