I have been posting here to get my ethernet switch running.

The manual for it just said, "Attach the cabling."

I can see why computer techs make the "big bucks."

I'd have to double check what the connections are, and whether it was the auto-switching model. I'm at the out-laws, so will check the others when I get back.

But if the CAT-5 cables are normal (ie straight through), you connect everything to the hub one-to-one. Connecting a hub-to-hub typically requires a cross-over cable, a switch on the hub, or an auto-switching hub. The switching port might be the highest or lowest port number.

Now my recollection is that the DSL-to-PC cable is a cross-over (ie transmit and receive pairs are switched), so it either needs to go to the switching port on the hub, or be replaced by a normal/generic cable.
It could be a random act of randomness. Those happen a lot as well.

Hi,

My DSL modem (EMBARQ) to PC NIC cable is a standard one.
