Dave, that BP rig was a free floating exploratory vessel. Seems really odd that Obama ok's off shore exploration and boom! a rig blows up. Now I'm no conspiracy nut but this one doesn't add up. There are crazies on the far left that would do anything to stop more off shore drilling.

Me? I'm for sucking the earth dry of oil then we will have to find another energy source.

they need to do some research on "how to clean up the mess"

AFAIK their primary motivation is to prevent further damage to the environment, so I can't see them intentionally doing anything that would trigger something like this. The most likely cause is the same as most such disasters, human error stupidity. BP clearly failed to implement adequate safeguards here.

it would seem a logical target for terrorism, too
you get BP oil and the US in one blow
both of which are enemies of the islamists
it wouldn't surprise me a bit to see the US gov't cover something like that up

hutch--

i doubt its anything that exciting, more likely just sloppy safeguards by BP. The Exxon one in Alaska was genuine fun, I have seen the photos of the hole in the hull but this one of the US east coast has the potential to make a far bigger mess.

Those rigs are suppose to have safeguards upon safeguards (auto shut offs, etc.). So what the hell happened? I don't know, I'll be waiting with interest until they determine what the cause was but I fear this one they may never know. I'm sure the survivors of the blow are being drilled 24/7.

They don't seem to know what the hell to do to shut it off. If they don't figure it out pretty soon this could be a huge catastrophe. We could have the whole Gulf of Mexico in an oil spill. What the hell are these guys doing even operating this thing if they don't have a contingency plan for a scenario like this?

"Drill Baby Drill" huh?

i see halliburton is involved with this...

which has caused their stock to drop - awwwwww   :boohoo:

BP oil - halliburton - makes me wonder how (not if) bush and cheney are involved
i hope they hang em by their balls

Hi,

Ick, now they are talking about it leaving the gulf and
affecting the Keys and going up the Eastern Seaboard.
And it should get here (NW Florida) soon.  Oh well.

The bad thing is what its doing to the fishing industry including the fish shipping industry. I fear a lot more folks are going to be out of jobs.

As far as fish goes, I'm not a fish eater, I'm a meat (beef, pork, deer, chicken) kind of guy so high fish prices won't effect me none.

yes - the shrimpers are suffering already
i do eat fish, now and then - it has certain nutrients that you don't get in other foods
actually, one of my favorite meals is crab (not king crab) - but, i don't eat it that often

these guys have raped the economy - and they won't be happy until they have raped the planet, as well
when that asteroid arrives in 2012, i hope it lands on texas - lol
